Lucknow double murder case
The poor law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh was once again highligted when two brothers were shot dead after being beaten up brutally by two men late on Wednesday night in Thakurganj area of capital city of Lucknow.
Two bike-borne assailants stopped three brothers who were traveling in a car. The attackers then pulled them out of the car and beat them up. They fired at the two brothers from a close range, killing them on the spot. The deceased were identified as Imran and Armaan.
The incident took place at a crowded place but nobody tried to intervene. The police station was just 200 metres away from the crime spot, but it took almost an hour for the cops to reach the spot, highlighting the lackadaisical approach of Uttar Pradesh Police.
The CCTV footage of the incident shows the assailants fleeing the crime spot very comfortably, collecting all their belongings.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased alleged that before firing at Imran and Armaan, they were beaten up with cane and rods for more than 30 minutes. They claimed that they tried calling the police control room but their calls went unanswered.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Lucknow, Kalanidhi Naithani said preliminary investigations suggest that the two groups had an old rivalry. "We are investigating the matter and will soon trace the murderers," the SP said.
Using CCTV footage, police have managed to arrest the main accused, Sahil alias Chotu. Police say he has past criminal record and has served jail term. In the CCTV footage, he is allegedly seen shooting at the brothers and fleeing away on his motorcycle.
His accomplice is also seen in the footage but his face isn't visible clearly. Police say they are questioning Sahil and trying to identify others involved in the case.
The gruesome murder took place less than a week after an employee of Apple was shot dead by a UP Police constable in the upscale Gomtinagar area. The Yogi Adityanath government had received a lot of flak from several quarters over the brazen murder of a top multinational executive.
