Jammu and Kashmir: Six militants killed during encounter with security forces in Shopian; mobile, internet services suspended in district

The security forces have gunned down 12 militants in last 48 hours. Earlier on Friday, six militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag. They had also recovered arms and ammunition following the gunfight.

Jammu and Kashmir: Six militants killed during encounter with security forces in Shopian; mobile, internet services suspended in district

Six militants were killed during an ongoing encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir early Sunday. The gunfight was reported from Kapran Batagund area of the district. The security forces have recovered bodies of four extremists, while search for other two is on. Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the spot.

One of the militant has been identified as Omar Majeed Ganai, a known Lashkar operative who had posted his picture from Srinagar's Lal Chwk on social media a couple of days ago. 

Mobile internet services have been suspended in south Kashmir's Shopian district.

A search operation had been launched by security forces in the area upon receiving a tip-off.
