Former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief Madhavan Nair joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party president Amit Shah, in Trivandrum, on Saturday.
Nair was also the secretary to the Department of Space, Government of India.
A leading technologist in the field of rocket systems, Nair has made a significant contribution to the development of multi-stage satellite launch vehicles. Because of his efforts, India achieved self-reliance in independent access to space using indigenous technologies.
On 26 January 2009, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, country’s second highest civilian honour.
Amit Shah welcomed Nair by felicitating him with a shawl.
