Jitendra Malik, alias 'Jeetu Fauji' who allegedly shot at Police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh during the Bulandshahr mob violence has been sent to 14 day judicial custody by a local court.

Malik had been handed over to Uttar Pradesh Police by the Army on Saturday. He was later brought to Syana Police Station, Bulandshahr for questioning.

Meanwhile, another top police official was transferred in the wake of the growing public outcry over the Bulandshahr mob violence. According to news agency ANI, Additional Superintendent of Police Raees Akhtar has been transferred to PAC headquarters, Lucknow. Akhtar will be replaced by Manish Mishra, ANI added.

Earlier on Saturday, three cops including SSP Krishna Bahadur Singh were transferred. While SSP Singh was attached to the office of the Director General of Police, Circle Officer (CO) Satya Prakash Sharma and Suresh Kumar, the in-charge of Chingravathi police chowki, have been transferred "for their failure in responding in time to the situation arising on Monday in that area".

The decision was taken on the basis of a report submitted by the Additional Director General of Police SB Shiradkar.  The transfers are understood to be in line with the findings of the report on police handling of the situation.
