Bhopal:

Hundreds of teacher aspirants continued their protest in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal on Monday, calling for an increase in the number of posts under the Secondary and Primary Teacher Recruitment 2025 and also raising concerns over the condition of government schools across the state.

The protest, which was called by the School Bachao Sangharsh Samiti Madhya Pradesh. is being held at the Neelam Park in the state capital. They have demanded that the state government, led by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, raise the vacancies for the posts of Class 2 and Class 3 under the 2025 recruitment drive.

"I have given up even water; it has been 40 hours. For nine months, we have been pressing a simple demand regarding recruitment quotas - asking that you not issue notifications for such a small number of vacancies," a protester, Narendra Rajput, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

"You are the government, yet you simply weren't grasping the situation. Madhya Pradesh wants change. The number of vacancies in every recruitment drive is abysmally low," he added.

'Need jobs, not financial assistance'

They have claimed that there is a vacancy for 8,721 positions, while recruitment was made only for 2,901 posts, leaving thousands of aspirants jobless. The women agitators have said they don't need the government's monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500 and want it to fulfil their demands.

Alleging that more than 25,000 schools have been closed across the state, the agitators have now threatened to intensify their protest if their demands are not addressed.

"We are gathered here to call for an increase in the number of posts. We want the government to increase the vacancies for Class 2 and Class 3 positions; we are asking the CM for a 'Rakhi' gift in the form of these additional posts... There are 25,000 vacant Class 3 posts, and we are demanding 3,000 posts per subject for Class 2; we want them to fulfill these demands and give us this Raksha Bandhan gift," another protester told ANI.

With the protesters threatening to continue their agitation, the police have increased their deployment in and around the Neelam Park. However, the Madhya Pradesh government has not issued a statement regarding the agitation yet.
