Did Pihu trailer spook you? Here’s how you can prepare your child for emergencies at home

Pihu trailer has given everyone sleepless nights, especially the parents who have toddlers at their home. Untoward situations never see right or wrong time, they just knock our doors no matter how prepared we are. For the nuclear families, with no one else than the mother itself staying at home, it becomes even important to prepare their child for the unforeseen situations like shown in Pihu. In the absence of parents or an adult, a child’s curiosity can land them in grave danger and can even end their life. There have been many incidents reported where toddles get injured or lose their life out of curiosity. One thing that we learnt from Pihu trailer is that we need to prepare our children for emergencies right from the young age.

Be strict about the ground rules

Draw some ground rules at the house like not to put fingers in the electrical socket, climb the balcony rails, switch on the gas, going near microwaves, etc. Be honest with your children and explain them the aftermath of defying the rules. Make them write the rules as well so that they can remember them.

Keep cash and coins away

Children can be really curious about the currency notes and coins. And not only it can damage the valuable bills but also expose them to some really grave dangers. How? Toddlers usually make themselves familiar with a new thing by putting it in their mouth. Swallowing the coin can choke them and in the absence of an adult it can even cost their life. Put your purse and cash out of their reach, always.

Keep the bathroom and kitchen doors bolted

If your child is below 3 years of age, put a portable potty near his room for their business. If you’re going to take a nap or are out of the house, bolt the doors of the bathroom and kitchen. Tell your child strictly not to touch anything in the kitchen, especially the gadget without anyone’s supervision. Keep your washing machine behind the closed doors. Some machines even provide the child lock, make sure that you keep it locked always.

Install child gate around the stairs

The crawling tots can get injured on the stairs. So, to keep them off the staircase always, install a child gate at the both ends of it. They are easily available in the market or you can get one made for yourself. In case, they are able to climb the short gates, build a tall iron gate around the stairs and keep it locked.
