Bengaluru:

A shocking incident unfolded in Karnataka's capital city of Bengaluru where a man allegedly killed his wife before dying by suicide, the police said on Thursday. The deceased were identified as 28-year-old Manoj Kumar and his 26-year-old wife Sapna, who originally hailed from the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, the couple had moved to Bengaluru a few years ago and had been living at a rented accommodation in southern suburb of Lakshmappa Garden, which comes under the jurisdiction of Channammanakere Achukattu police station. Manoj worked as a carpenter, while Sapna was homemaker.

The police said the couple, who had been for past three years, had a fight between 11.30 am and noon on Wednesday inside their room. The argument escalated after which Manoj reportedly strangled Sapna to death before dying by suicide.

The incident only came to the light after the owner, identified as Shekhar, and other occupants alerted the police. The owner told officials said that he heard screams from the couple's house which was at the first floor of the building.

Sapna strangled to death, Manoj found hanging

Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and broke open the door. They found Sapna's body inside the bedroom, while Manoj was found hanging from the ceiling fan. However, no suicide note was recovered.

"The husband used a red nylon rope to strangulate his wife and later hanged himself from the ceiling fan using the same rope," news agency PTI quoted a Bengaluru Police official as saying. "The Inspector and the ACP reached the spot, had the door opened and found the man hanging inside."

The police have also found that Sapna was four-month pregnant. The couple's body has also been for post-mortem.

An investigation has been launched and as per preliminary investigation by officials, Manoj had not been attending work regularly for the past few days, and the couple had frequent arguments recently. Further action will be taken after a thorough probe is conducted.

"The exact cause will be known after the investigation," the official told PTI.
