The much-awaited biopic on the life of legendary actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao was officially launched on 29 March in Hyderabad by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. Since then, the Telugu film has been grabbing headlines all over. While Bollywood actress Vidya Balan will be playing the role of NTR’s wife Basavatarakam in the upcoming film, Rakul Preet Singh is step into the shoes of legendary actress Sridevi for NTR biopic.
Earlier reports suggested that Sonakshi Sinha or Shraddha Kapoor would be playing Sridevi but now the makers have cleared the air saying that Rakul was their one and only choice from the beginning itself.
Producer Vishnu Induri told a website, "We haven't approached Sonakshi, Kangana [Ranaut] or Shraddha. Rakul Preet is our only choice as she's popular in the South, especially in Telugu films. We have shot almost 30 per cent of the movie. Vidya [Balan, who plays NTR's wife] has already shot for six days. We are working on Rakul's dates for now."
According to Induri, Rakul's role in the NTR biopic is a cameo with a song and a few scenes. NTR and Sridevi had acted together in 14 films and the former was instrumental in shaping Sridevi's career. It will be great injustice to not mention her in the biopic of the legend.
