Actress Dipika Chikhlia Topiwala, who is best known for the character of Sita in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan has bagged a major role in a film. The actress will play the titular role of Sarojini Naidu in a biopic of the freedom fighter, which has been titled Sarojini. Dipika took to social media to share the first look poster of the film on Thursday. The poster features a side profile of the actress as Sarojini Naidu. The tagline on the poster reads: "Swatantrata ki nayika ki ek ankahi kahani (An untold story of the heroine of the independence movement)". "#sarojininaidu...1st look....poster," she captioned the poster of the film. Sarojini has been directed by Akash Nayak and Dhiraj Mishra.

For the first time, a major film is being produced on the life of the freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu. She was an important political figure in the Indian independence movement.

Meanwhile, Ramayan is being re-telecast almost three decades later during the lockdown. The show has become the most-watched entertainment show in the world.

Talking about the reason behind the show's smashing success, Dipika told IANS, "I have not analysed. I am not the sort of person who sits down and analyses. The only immediate thing I can think of is -- it has always had a story and a background. It always had a legacy and an era. When people started watching I would get messages that 'now, we are also part of that legacy and the magic'."

"I think the word of mouth that people had loved it 30 years ago was the first kick-off. And once they started seeing and watching I think they kind of believed in the magic. I think that is how the circle moved. The series already had a name for itself and I think that the re-telecast rode on the success of original success. That's how I see it," she had added.

During an interaction with Spotboye, Dipika Chikhlia expressed her desire to be given Padma Awards, "I am not asking for any award in this conversation with you, but am definitely going to point it out. Now, the way the Modi government has once again brought the Ramayana serial to the world, the world has also given love. Now if Modi Ji feels that Ramayana's team has done some work in culture and literature, then they should think about honouring us with Padma awards.” She also talked about the team receiving neither royalty, “This contribution of ours received neither any respect nor royalty. This is not correct. I am saying this today because people are listening to us today. We should get a good royalty"
