France President Nicolas Sarkozy has removed tall bodyguards who make him look short.
Sarkozy fears the taller guards, who surround him for his own protection, have a habit of making him look even smaller than he is, according to police sources.
The 55-year-old is famously sensitive about his 5ft 5in height and favours wearing platform shoes to disguise his diminutive stature.
He has also stood on a box while delivering a speech next to lanky American President Barack Obama and was last year accused of stage managing a photo opportunity with factory workers by insisting those who took part were no taller than him.
Sarkozy's armed guards — attached to what is known as the GSPR — now face a harder time getting a job protecting the French premier if they do stand tall.
The move comes despite the fact they stand a better chance of spotting trouble and after he chose leggy former model Carla Bruni, 42, for a wife.
She measures a sky-scraping 5ft 10ins and often wears flat shoes to avoid rubbing salt into his wounds.
