The film, which has created a lot of hype ever since it was announced a while back, will have Rajini record a song composed by Oscar- winner maestro A. R. Rahman.
Reportedly, Rajini was initially not willing to sing in the film and it took some convincing by Rahman and the superstar's daughter Soundarya, who is directing the film, to make him say yes to the idea.
Incidentally, Rajini's decision to sing comes in the wake of his son- in- law Dhanush's ‘ Kolaveri di' becoming a global rage.
The Kochadaiyaan song will have Rahman crooning along with Rajini. It has been written by Vairamuthu, considered to be one of the top lyricists in Tamil cinema.
While not many details about the song have come out, it has been known that the number isn't a typical filmy song but has some classical overtones.
In his 37- year- old career, Rajini has sung only once before.
He recorded a number, ‘ Adikuthu kuluru', for a Tamil film called Mannan that released in 1992.
Kochadaiyaan is a story of a prince who is the devotee of Lord Shiva. Kochadaiyaan was announced a few months ago after Rajini recovered from his major stomach ailment last year.
The 61- year- old superstar was shooting for his ambitious project Rana when he complained of severe stomach ache.
He was rushed to a Singapore hospital for further treatment.
Rajini returned after treatment late last year but his delicate condition meant that he wouldn't be able to film some heavy- duty action scenes he would require to do in Rana.
The film was therefore shelved and Soundarya launched Kochadaiyaan . Initial reports suggested Soundarya was keen to have Katrina Kaif as Rajini's heroine in the film.
However, Kat had a packed schedule. Deepika subsequently stepped in as the heroine for the film.
