Mumbai: Ageing Bollywood actor Govinda's Naughty @ 40 has been given an A certificate by the Central Board for Film Certification, meaning, Censor Board, says a media report.
In the film, Govinda plays a 40-year-old unmarried sex-starved man, who lands in India from London only to get married.
Govinda says he respects the Censor Board's decision.
But cine industry analyst Taran Aadarsh who saw the film, said there was no need for an A certificate given the permissive time we live in.
" Though I totally respect the Boards perspective, but there are no hardcore bed room scenes in the films. There are far too many films with nudity which go by as uncensored", says Adarsh.
Directed by Jag Mundhra, a bare chest Govinda,in the still, looks quite apprehensive before his bed room interactions with the UK model Adward Lussia, who plays love guru to him, teaching him the intricacies of love.
Govinda says, it is a comedy about unmarried people above 40 and how they crave to satiate their desires. "I play someone like that who doesnt know anything about sex", says the actor.
Asked whether he would lose his audience because of the A certificate, Govinda replied : "A certificate doesnt matter. Those who will watch it first and like it will definitely spread the word and I am so sure that college-goers will come to see it.
"It is a fun film. Even families can watch it.
"In 1988,my film Hatya too was given an A certificate.Jabki usmein aisa kuch bhi nahi tha.I dont fight on these things".
Producer Anuj Sharma says, "may be for them the subject was bold. An unmarried man wants to get married and is craving for sex.
"Bachchon ke liye nai hai.Thodi adult hai.But while shooting for the film,we made it a point to keep it as normal as possible."
With Banda Ye Bindaas Hai, Run Bhola Run and Loot in the pipeline, Govinda is quite pepped up now for his naughty act.
In an interview to PTI, Govinda said this is his third innings in Bollywood and now he is no mood to refuse films.
"This is my third innings in Bollywood. Now I can afford to do all kind of cinema. I am not in a mood to refusing films. There was a time when I was refusing so many films. Especially in last two years I refused lot of films. And we keep waiting for good films thinking it would turn out good," Govinda said.
There are two films of Govinda in the offing - Ravi Chopra's 'Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai' and 'Run Bhola Run'. Both are comedies.
'Run Bhola Run' is a romantic-comedy written and directed by Neeraj Vora starring Govinda, Tusshar Kapoor, Ameesha Patel and Celina Jaitley in lead roles. The film's plot centers on two convicts who escape from jail. While 'Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai', is film directed by Ravi Chopra, starring Salman Khan, Lara Dutta, Govinda, Tabu, and Boman Irani. The film is likely to release in June.
"These are typical Govinda entertainers. One will walk out of theatre laughing out loud...and they will feel good," the 48-year-old actor said.
'Naughty @ 40' stars Yuvika Chaudhary, Sayali Bhagat and American actor Lucia Gilbert.
"When I first came into the industry I wanted to work with directors of international repute. But my personality did not match their expectations. It still doesn't, but at least I have got a chance now and I am happy," Govinda said.
On his role in the film, Govinda says, I play a lively happy-go-lucky guy called 'Happy' who wants to have just fun in his life. His romantic escapades revolving around Yuvika and Sayali form the story of the film. Besides, there is Lucia who will be the highlight of the film.
In the film which releases this Friday, Govinda is paired opposite Yuvika, who is almost half his age but this has not deterred him.
"I did not think she is my daughter's friend or half my age. The moment you start personalising things you cannot remain a good actor one has to forget all this," he said.
After a successful stint in Bollywood till late 1990s, Govinda's career hit a rough patch. To which the actor, says, "I have seen everything, success...failure. I feel bad times affect you only when you let that happen. Everybody has a day...mine too will soon come."
Later, Govinda, entered politics for a short time, became a Congress MP in Lok Sabha, then left politics and made a comeback with David Dhawan's 'Partner' and 'Bhaagam Bhag' both released in 2007. He had Mani Ratnam's 'Raavan' alongside Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai but the movie failed to creat magic at the box office. PTI
