Hollywood pop star Michael Jackson's singer sister Janet Jackson will team up with Adnan Sami for a comeback album of The Jackson 5, says a media report.
Sami had planned an ambitious project a few years ago to mark the comeback of The Jackson 5 with Michael Jackson. The band comprised Michael's brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy.
Earlier, the Jacksons did not show much interest. But now the project is back on track and Janet will sing Michael's portions.
“Janet is definitely going to be a part of the new project. It's early to discuss the album's details, but we are looking to release it next year,” Sami said.
“It will be a different kind of a collaboration — something nobody has seen before. Janet will bring her unique style to the songs,” he added.
“They are looking to come up with a new kind of sound,” said Sami. He is working hard to fuse Motown — the Jacksons' specialisation — with Indian and world music elements. “ It won't sound old or stale,” Sami added.
Janet and her brothers will visit India to record the album. “ It has to be a collaborative effort. I will also travel to Los Angeles while they plan to record a part in Mumbai. We are in the process of finalising songs and melodies. It will take time,” Sami said.
After Michael's demise, the family had almost scrapped the project.
But now the Jacksons want to complete all projects Michael was involved with.
“Janet is a part of the family and seamlessly fits into group,” Sami added.
Jackson's brother Jermaine has already worked with Sami on a song, Let's Go to Mumbai City . Composed by Sami, the number is meant to be a dedication to Mumbai as a sign of tribute to the place that hosted Michael Jackson in 1996.
The song is currently making waves on TV channels.
“ It was my way to pay tribute to a wonderful city, Mumbai, which has given a lot over 10 years. Through the song, we also honoured Michael's musical dreams,” said Sami. Jermaine was reportedly impressed with Sami and played a key role in the project's revival.
Meanwhile, Sami is busy in Bollywood with projects like My Name Is Khan , Shahid Kapur's Chance Pe Dance and Raj Kanwar's Sadiyaan . “ I have been caught up with personal problems such as my father's death and court issues regarding my marriage. But I am back with a bang now,” he said.
