Shahid Kapoor to step into the shoes of boxing hero Ngangom Dingko Singh for next film

Handsome hunk Shahid Kapoor is riding high on success these days. After his last film, Padmaavat broke records at the box office, the actor is ready to treat his fans with Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Other than this, he also has a couple of big projects in his kitty. Now it is learned that the actor will step into the shoes of boxing hero Dingko Singh as well. Shahid Kapoor has already proved his acting mettle with a number of performances all across genres and now he will also try his luck in a sports biopic.

Going by the reports in Bombay Times, Shahid will play the role of Ngangom Dingko Singh was the first and only Asian gold medallist boxer from India in the Bantamweight category. In 2013, he was awarded the Padma Shri. Talking to Bombay Times, Shahid revealed why he chose the role and said, " The thing that I loved about this story is that he is one of those superstars who we don’t know much about. If a film like Dangal (2016) wasn’t made, we wouldn’t know as much about the Phogat sisters. Dingko is a cancer survivor, and he went through 13 rounds of chemotherapy. He has even gone on to say that his biggest win was surviving cancer and not the gold medal he won at the age of 19 at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok. In 2017, Gautam Gambhir became aware of his situation and sent money for his treatment. Soon, people found out who he was, and 13 doctors came forward to help him. He is a sports star who survived cancer. At some point in his past, he had almost become a Naxalite. His life story is unbelievably crazy; it is very human and extremely inspiring. Such amazing stories of heroes need to be told.”

Shahid considers this film to be his most ambitious project in his career and is ready to work day and night for it. “He needs to have a particular physique to play the character convincingly and learn the techniques of boxing,” a source close to the development had earlier told DNA.

Currently, Shahid is busy promoting his upcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu along with Yami Gautam. Not just on the professional front but Shahid is also happy in his personal life as well. The actor will be welcoming his second child with wife Mira Rajput Kapoor soon.
