Ajay Devgn turned 50 on Monday and treated his fans with the trailer of his upcoming Luv Ranjan directorial film De De Pyaar De. While fans loved to the actor back in the comic role, Alok Nath’s presence in the film didn’t go down well with Twitterati. For the unversed, The Sanskari actor was accused of rape and sexual harassment by Tara writer-producer last year and was even banned by CINTAA. Alok Nath has been kept away from the projects he was doing but when he appeared in De De Pyaar De trailer, netizens lost their cool and slammed Ajay Devgn on the internet.
If Alok Nath’s presence was not enough to raise a storm on the internet, Ajay Devgn’s statement about him triggered them. At the trailer launch when Ajay was asked about Alok Nath, he said, "This is not the right place to talk about it." He added, "And jinki aap baat kar rahe hai woh film uske pehle complete hui (the film was completed before the allegations surfaced against the concerned person)” This made Twitterati even more angry and they bashed the actor for not taking responsibility for it.
While one twitter user wrote, “Shame on Ajay Devgn for defending Alok Nath. They could have given him the boot after allegations and FIR. I hate when celebs say ‘this is not the right platform to discuss’. Issues like this deserved to be discussed on every platform,” another questioned the presence of Alok Nath in the film. Here’s what Twitterati is buzzing with-
While women continue to be disbelieved, ridiculed and shoved back into silence, men accused of sexual violence continue to find work. @ajaydevgn @itsBhushanKumar I hope you know Alok Nath has been accused of rape and an FIR filed. Disgusting that he’s part of De De Pyar De.— #MeTooIndia (@IndiaMeToo) April 2, 2019
When it came to casting someone for that role, what made it absolutely necessary to pick a man accused of violence and harassment by multiple women? Is it a message that says you don’t care? What will it take for artists to stand up in support of women who call out predators?— #MeTooIndia (@IndiaMeToo) April 2, 2019
Luv Ranjan is producing it. He sexually harassed my friend and gaslighted her. So no surprises there.— Rohit🌈 (@desijourno) April 2, 2019
How come the #BollywoodFraternity is not supporting the #victims of sexual harassment n banning these people...If u are giving work to men accused of #sexualviolence, abuse that means u are supporting them n don't believe the victims. Action speaks louder than words #metoo— RuchiAngrish (@RuchiAngrish) April 2, 2019
Shame on @ajaydevgn for defending Alok Nath. They could have given him the boot post the allegations & FIR. I hate when celebs say "this is not the right platform to discuss". De de pyaar se trailer is anyway condescending on so many levels, but the worst part is Ajay Devgan & Luv Ranjan team being highly insensitive towards the #Metoo .It has the scumbag Alok Nath in a full blown character. In spite of everything they have the gal to go ahead with it.— Vaishnavi (@LinesAreBlurred) April 2, 2019
De De Pyaar De also features Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles and is directed by Akiv Ali. It releases on May 17. Talking about the film, Ajay Devgn said, "De De Pyaar De is a fun love story. It is a fun film. I don't even know if I have done this kind of film before. But I have had fun doing this film.” He also said, “There is no plot in this film. There is only masti.”
