Vidya Balan's coy, vulnerable saari-clad image may have won won many hearts, but the actress is all set to do her first so-called item number in Santosh Sivan's next Urumi, reports Mumbai Mirror.
Vidya was never against the idea. Two years ago, Vidya Balan had reportedly mentioned, “I am not against doing an item number but only if I like the song.” It seems Vidya has developed a taste for the music in Santosh's next.
Set in the 15th century, Urumi is a period film that revolves around the killer of Vasco Da Gama. While the lead actress will play a Portuguese Princess, Vidya will only make a guest appearance in the film; that too in an item song.
But the song has a very different flavour this time. To complement it, Vidya will perform a traditional version of the Mohiniattam dance form. A source reveals, “It won't be a raunchy number but definitely a very sensuous one.”
Vidya was apparently the director's first choice for this song, as he was quite impressed by her sensuous “Indian look” in Ishqiya.
And Sivan is known for his ability to make his characters look even more sensuous than they seem with costumes and make-up on; that's where his cinematography does the needful. Prime example was Kareena's look in Asoka. And now it's Vidya's turn.
While Vidya remained unavailable for comment, Sivan said, “Talks are on with Vidya. I can't comment anything now.”
