One of the first Bollywood films of 2019, Uri: The Surgical Strike, starring Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam opened to mixed reviews. While the first day box office collection of this real-life based event film didn’t match up to its expectations, the positive word of mouth publicity helped URI in witnessing a remarkable growth on day 2 of its opening.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced the latest Uri Box Office Collection on social media and said, “#UriTheSurgicalStrike witnesses remarkable growth on Day 2 [Sat]... Glowing word of mouth is converting into BO numbers... Growth on Day 2 [vis-à-vis Day 1]: 51.59%... Day 3 [today] should be bigger... Fri 8.20 cr, Sat 12.43 cr. Total: ₹ 20.63 cr. India biz”.
Interestingly, Uri has turned out to be Vicky's biggest opener ever as a lead actor. Till now, he has worked in films like Manmarziyaan, Raazi and Raman Raghav 2.0. Though his film Sanju garnered Rs. 34.75 crore on its opening day, it starred Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role.
The film is facing the box-office battle with The Accidental Prime Minister starring Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles.
Uri is an action thriller film based on true incidents which along with Vicky also stars Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina and Yami Gautam. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Uri is based on the 2016 surgical strike by Indian Army on Pakistan Administered Kashmir which was a retaliation for the Uri Attacks of September 2016
