Ranbir Kapoor’s latest Bollywood outing Sanju is creating ripples all over. After garnering much appreciation from audience and critics, the Sanjay Dutt biopic is doing great business at box-offices across the globe. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial venture has earned Rs 167.51 crore in four days at the Indian box office and, the film is doing equally good at international box office as well.
Till now, the film has grossed Rs 209.38 crore (nett Rs 167.51 crore) in India and Rs 55 crore at the overseas box office. Sanju currently stands with the grand total of Rs 264.38 crore at the worldwide box office. The film is all set to enter the Rs 300 crore club by the end of its opening week at the box office.
“#Sanju continues its EPIC RUN... Shows INCREDIBLE TRENDING on weekdays... Eyes ₹ 200 cr+ in Week 1... Fri 34.75 cr, Sat 38.60 cr, Sun 46.71 cr, Mon 25.35 cr, Tue 22.10 cr. Total: ₹ 167.51 cr. India biz... Heading for BLOCKBUSTER status”, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Like other Hirani films,Sanju is also making its mark at the international box office. In a list, compiled by comScore, of top 20 movies at US and Canadian theatres from Friday to Sunday Sanju stood at the 8th spot.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Sanju’s worldwide collections has crossed the coveted Rs 250 crore mark.
Sanju’s biggest threat at the box office was the Salman Khan starrer Race 3, released two weeks ago, but a strong word of mouth in favour of Ranbir Kapoor’s film did the trick for producers.
It has been proved *yet again* that timing the release of a movie during festivals / holidays does not guarantee success... If you deliver qualitative content, even a non-holiday week can turn into a festival for its investors... Sanju’s box office collection has already surpassed that of Race 3 and may even cross Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat, the highest grosser of the year.
Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor opened to cinema halls on June 29. The film has already shattered as many as eight box-office records. Check it out here.
