Paltan: Cinematographer sends legal notice to JP Dutta over uncleared dues

Just before Arjun Rampal and Sonu Sood starrer Paltan hits the cinemas in September7,  filmmaker JP Dutta finds himself in a legal soup. Nigam Bomzan, the director of photography on the project, has slapped a notice to the makers over non-payment of dues and missing credit in the trailer.

In an interaction to Mid-day, the cinematographer said he filmed two schedules in Ladakh last year. "Being a fan of Dutta's work, we verbally agreed on the money but didn't sign a formal contract. I shot for 54 days, and the portions make up 80 per cent of the film. During that period, I received about 30 per cent of my remuneration."

Nigam alleges that he and his assistant's dues are still pending and has been requesting Dutta's office to clear the payment as he needs money for his sister's medical treatment which is quite expensive. Nigam has recently won accolades for his cinematography for the film Satyamev Jayate. He said that he has worked very hard for Paltan and deserves credit as a cinematographer for Paltan. He has also lodged a complaint with the Cinematographer's Association.

JP Dutta is back to direction after a gap of 12 years with the film Paltan. His last film was Umrao Jaan (2006) starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles. It is based on the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La clashes along the Sikkim border after 1962 Sino-Indian War.

Paltan narrates the story of the Indian forces battling a Chinese infiltration. Based on the Nathu La military clashes of 1967 which took place along the Sikkim border, Paltan showcases an untold story of the Indian forces facing off Chinese troops in an intense battle.

With power-packed performances, the film promises to tell the riveting, untold story of the bravest of Indian soldiers who fought with their brothers next to them till the end.

The upcoming war drama stars an ensemble cast of Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Choudhary, Harshvardhan Rane and Siddhant Kapoor, among others. Presented by Zee Studios and produced by JP Dutta Films, ‘Paltan’ is directed by JP Dutta and is slated to release on 7 September.
