Stunt directors will now get recognition for extraordinary work in form of National Awards as the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to institute a special prize in this category.
From next year onwards, breathtaking stunts, hallmark of many a movie will get special recognition at the National Film Awards, the most prestigious in the country.
Sources told PTI that in the 64th edition of the national awards next year, 'Best Stunt Direction' under the feature films section will be included as a new category.
It is learnt that the new award category was decided after Aishwarya Rajinikanth Dhanush, younger daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, who himself is known for his action packed movies, had written to the ministry drawing attention to this crucial and daring aspect of film-making.
After discussions, Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has given his approval for the introduction of the new National Award next year, the sources said.
The ministry is also learnt to have decided in favour of introducing another category 'Best Audiography - Location Sound Recordist', the sources said.
