Kalank: Karan Johar announces film starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit

Abhishek Varman, who earlier debuted in Indian film industry with 2 States, is all set to deliver a starry affair with Kalank. While it was confirmed that Bollywood’s former rumoured couple Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt are coming together in Kalank, the remaining star cast of the film has also been confirmed. You will be delighted to know that Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur will also feature in the Dharma Productions movie apart from Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit.

On Wednesday morning, Alia Bhatt dropped the poster of Kalank, bearing the names of star cast. The epic drama is set in the 1940’s and bankrolled by Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

Speaking about Kalank, Karan Johar told TOI, “I am supremely excited about Kalank. It’s an epic drama with a solid beating heart. The coming together of this formidable and fantastic cast makes this big-event film exceptionally exciting for me. Abhishek Varman’s exemplary vision and our prolific partners, Fox Star Studios and Sajid Nadiadwala, make it even more special.”

Kalank starts its journey four years later to the date when 2 States hit the theatres back in 2014. Talking about it, Sajid Nadiadwala said, “2 States' had released on April 18 in 2014, and 'Kalank' begins its journey on the same date, four years later. This multi-starrer with a fascinating story will cross all borders, under the capable direction of Abhishek Varman. It will be historic in the true sense of the word. I am genuinely happy to be back with Fox Star Studios and Karan Johar. This film is special to all of us.”

Earlier, Sridevi was roped in to star in Kalank, but her untimely demise has robbed Abhishek Varman and Karan Johar to work with the veteran actress. Now the love story set against partition will see Madhuri Dixit in place of Sridevi.

The film is slated to release on April 19th, 2019.
