On a related note, there’s a fact regarding Anand which might shock you. Actually, Rajesh Khanna was not the first choice of director Hrishikesh Mukherjee to play the role of Anand; it was Raj Kapoor’s brother Shashi Kapoor. But, due to some issues, Shashi Kapoor rejected the film. Then, the second choice came to be Raj Kapoor, but as Raj Kapoor just got well after a long illness, Mukherjee did not want to show him dying in Anand. Hence, Rajesh Khanna got the role.
