Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election 2017 results: As it Happened

The Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to form government in Gujarat and hill state Himachal Pradesh while Rahul Gandhi's Congress has settled for the second place.

Out of 182 seats in Gujarat, the BJP is leading in 99 seats and will be forming the government in the state for sixth consecutive term. The Congress is leading in 80 seats. In Himachal Pradesh, the BJP is all set to wrest power from the Congress. The party is leading in 44 out of 68 seats in the state. The Congress is leading in 21 seats.

Election results in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh indicate a strong support for politics of good governance and development, PM Narendra Modi said as trends showed that the BJP was inching towards victory in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh states. "I bow to the people of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for their affection and trust in BJP. I assure them that we will leave no stone unturned in furthering the development journey of these states and serve the people tirelessly," he said in a series of tweets.

Meanwhile, accepting defeat Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that the party accepts verdict of people and congratulates new governments in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

The voter turnout in the second phase of balloting on December 14, for 93 seats of North and Central Gujarat, stood at 69.99 per cent.
