With the 2019 Lok Sabha elections just a few months away, the issue of Ayodhya Ram temple has once again started to heat up. Both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have been consistently raking up the issue during campaigning for the ongoing Assembly elections in five states.

Responding to a question during a press conference in Bhopal on Wednesday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the matter is sub-judice in the Supreme Court, thus it would not be appropriate for him to comment on it.

When prodded further, Rajnath said the BJP wants Ram temple to be built in a conducive environment. However, he added that everyone should wait for the Supreme Court verdict over the decades-long contentious issue.

"Ram Mandir banega to sabko khushi hogi, humara yeh manna hai ek achhe vaatavaran main Ram Mandir ka nirmaan hona chahiye (Every one will be happy when Ram Mandir will be built. I believe that temple's construction should be taken up in a conducive environment)," Rajnath said.

Speaking about the chances of the BJP retaining power in Madhya Pradesh, Rajnath Singh appeared confident of Shivraj Singh Chouhan getting a record fourth term as CM.

"We will form the government with a clear majority. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has won people's heart working continuously for the last 13 years. He has fulfilled promises. The Congress ruled for 55 years, but failed to bring India on the stage of developed countries," Rajnath Singh said.

"No party is perfect. We have never claimed to be perfect, but we are better," he said.
