Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday slammed the Congress party and alleged that the “people behind attacks on our defence procurement are often middlemen from the Congress era.”
“The people behind attacks on our defence procurement are often middlemen from the Congress era and international forces who want to ensure that India’s military doesn’t get stronger,” PM Modi alleged while interacting with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers from Tamil Nadu.
“Recently, a defence middleman was caught and brought back to India. But do you know who this middleman is close to? This middleman is close to the current ‘First Family’ of the Congress,” Modi said.
“People of the country deserve to know how middleman Christian Michel knew about the time of a meeting of the cabinet on security, about the status of a govt file, what role he played in delaying procurement of Rafale for 10 long years, what role he played in putting national security in danger," he added.
“Many people think that Congress’s biggest failure was in their mismanagement of the economy and their corruption. But they did deep damage to our armed forces too. For decades, they had made the defence sector a den of brokers and middlemen,” PM alleged.
It is pertinent to mention here that just months before the Lok Sabha elections 2019, the Congress party is trying to corner the Centre on Rafale issue. The grand old party has alleged that the deal is full of corruption.
