Karnataka Verdict: BJP's CM face Yeddyrurappa wins from Shikaripura, Siddaramaiah trails in Chamundeshwari, leads by a slender margin in Badami

Yeddyurappa has bagged 86,893 votes while his nearest rival G.H. Malathesh of Congress managed to get 51,586 votes.

Siddharamaiah stunned, Yeddyurappa wins from Shikaripura

Bharatiya Janata Party's chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa has won from the Shikaripura constituency with a whopping margin of 35,000 votes.Yeddyurappa has bagged 86,983 while his nearest rival G.H. Malathesh of Congress managed to get 51,586 votes. H.T. Baligar, JD(S) nominee has secured 13,191 votes.

Yeddyurappa is entering the State Assembly from Shikaripura segment for the eighth time.

Meanwhile, in a major setback to the Congress party, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is trailing the JD(S) candidate GT Devegowda by a huge margin in the Chamundeshwari constituency. On the other hand, he is facing a neck-and-neck fight with the BJP candidate B Sreemulu in Badami.

A party has to secure 112 seats for a simple majority in the Assembly. Though Karnataka has a 224-member Lower House, polling was held for 222 seats. Polling was deferred for the RR Nagar seat on account of alleged electoral malpractices, it was countermanded in Jayanagar following the death of the BJP candidate BN Vijayakumar.
