New Delhi: The Tihar Jail factory run by its inmates have registered a record turnover of Rs 32.17 crores in 2012-2013, almost a three-fold jump from the previous year when it was Rs 12.20 crores.

The increase in the turnover is owing to the carpentry unit of the jail which recorded an increased supply of desks to Delhi government schools.

"The main reason behind the increased revenues was the bulk supply of desks to Delhi government schools. Earlier, 200-225 desks were being manufactured by the factory which later increased to 400 desks per day," Director General (Tihar) Vimlaa Mehra told reporters here today.
