After constantly failing to conceive a child, a woman with the help of five members of a family allegedly strangled a seven-month pregnant neighbour, cut open her womb and pulled out the foetus in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district.

According to an Indian Express' report, the accused committed the crime after a ‘witchdoctor’ asked her to do so.

The accused, Ravinder Kaur (40), a native of village Kala Nangal in Gurdaspur’s Batala area, pulled out the foetus because she wanted to nurse it as her own. However, the foetus died within minutes of the incident.

Soon after, Ravinder with help from her husband and others in the family, buried the foetus in their residential compound. And the 32-year-old victim, Jasbir Kaur was kept in box and was to be disposed of later.

The incident came to light after Jasbir’s husband, Balwinder Singh, lodged a missing complaint at the local police station. Jasbir had gone missing on April 27 and was murdered the same day.

Police has lodged an FIR under sections 302, 313, 316, 201 and 120(B) of IPC against all accused.

Ravinder, according to the Indian Express report, got married for the second time four years ago and had four children from her first marriage. But before divorcing her first husband, the accused allegedly went through a tubectomy. Her children live with her first husband.
