Three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, a senior police official said. The gunfight occurred in the Ravas forest along the Kanker-Gariaband district border, where a joint team of security personnel was conducting an anti-Naxal operation in the morning.
The operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) units of Kanker and Gariaband districts. The official stated that intermittent firing is still ongoing.
Bodies of three Naxalites along with three weapons have been recovered from the encounter site so far, he said, adding that further details were awaited. Area committee members of the Maoists are among the killed cadres, he said.
252 Naxalites killed in Chhattisgarh this year
With this latest action, 252 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters in Chhattisgarh this year. Of these, 223 were eliminated in the Bastar division, which includes seven districts such as Kanker, while 27 were killed in Gariaband in the Raipur division. Additionally, two Naxalites were killed in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district in the Durg division.
On September 22, two senior Maoist cadres, Raju Dada (Katta Ramachandra Reddy, 63) and Kosa Dada (Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy, 67), both Central Committee members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoists), were killed in an encounter in Narayanpur district, police added.
