UM India Two Wheelers, which showcased its range of cruiser motorcycles at the 2014 Expo, is ready to launch its first cruiser, UM Renegade Commando, in India at Rs 1.25 lakh.
Florida-based UM Motorcycles has a 50:50 joint venture with Kashipur based Lohia Auto Industries.
The Indian version of the UM Renegade Commando will offer a 225cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor capable of producing 18PS at 8,000rpm of peak power and 15.5Nm at 5,500rpm of maximum torque. The engine will come mated with a five-speed gearbox.
UM Renegade, which competes against the likes of Royal Enfield in this price range, stays true to its traditional cruiser styling low seats, high and wide handlebar, curvy fuel tank and raked out front forks.
The motorcycle will be offered in three popular cruiser shades including matte green, black and white.
Reports suggest that the company has incorporated a lot of inputs in the motorcycle by the R&D team to make it Indian market-friendly.
The UM Renegade Commando will be first launched in Delhi, Pune and other metros and is expected to go on sale in the month of November.
The company has already setup its office in India, and with as many as 75 dealerships planned across India, and the factory in Kashipur, Uttarakhand also doubling up as an export hub, UM seems to be betting big on India.
