Mumbai, Jan 23: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex today ended on a flat note, up barely 13 points, ahead of RBI monetary policy review tomorrow and selling in the heavyweight RIL on dip in its third quarter profits.


The BSE 30-scrip index, Sensex, moved between 16,784 and 16,659.32 during the session, ending the day at 16,751.73 -- down 12.72 points, or 0.08 per cent.

However, the broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty slipped 2.35 points, 0.05 per cent, to 5,046.25.

Brokers said there was selective buying in the market and all gains were checked by fall in RIL, which had last week posted 13.6 per cent dip in net profit for the third quarter ended December. It fell 2.82 per cent.

Besides, they added that investors expected RBI to keep lending rates unchanged, despite suggestions from some quarters that it should cut them in view of low inflation and slowdown in growth.

While banking, consumer goods, auto, realty, IT and power stocks gained, shares in metal, oil and gas, consumer durables and healthcare.
