New Delhi, Nov 1: General Motors India will launch its premium hatchback Chevrolet Sail U-VA on Friday, replacing the Aveo U-VA in India. It will be available in both petrol and diesel engines.
The Sail U-VA hatch will be the first model after General Motor's India arm and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) formed an association to develop common vendor base and go for cross-shipping of vehicles. Sail U-VA is being built at the company's Talegaon plant in Maharashtra, which also makes the Spark and the Beat.
The pricing, which is yet unknown, will be revealed at the time of launch on November 2. A Mumbai-based General Motors dealer said it is likely that the car will cost higher than the Beat but will be cheaper than the Maruti Swift.
The company calls the Sail U-VA a global product that has been designed in the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre (PATAC), Shanghai. The Sail tops the best selling hatchback list in China, Chile and Ecuador.
