New Delhi: Researchers say that you need 8 hours of sleep to function properly. But this isn't true for everyone – especially when you are among those small percentage of the population who are among the "sleepless elite" who barely afford to get few hours of sleep.

In the modern era, juggling careers with raising a family, meeting deadlines, trying to squeeze in a social life, can be herculean tasks. Experts say the expectation is very much that you will always 'be on', meaning you have to keep communicating and working anywhere at any time.

In such a scenario, sleep deprivation can often become a norm for a lot many. In a recent US survey, 70 per cent of respondents admitted that work crept into their personal lives. Others reported feeling a lack of time, energy and concentration at home, with comments such as “I don't have enough time for my family because of my job.”

Jack Dorsey, Twitter founder and Square CEO

In 2011, Dorsey told Kara Swisher that he was spending eight to 10 hours a day at Square, and eight to 10 hours a day at Twitter. This means he only has four to six hours a night to sleep, possibly less when travel time is factored in. However, he still manages to get up at 5:30 every morning to take a jog.
