German carmaker Mercedes-Benz today launched the first affordable variant of the E-Class in India - the E 220 d – priced at Rs 57.14 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). This is the third variant of the E-class landing itself right in the mix of the diesel-powered variants of the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Volvo S90 and Jaguar XF.
With the E 220 d, Mercedes-Benz has also introduced its new 2.0-litre diesel engine which replaces the older 2.1-litre unit.
The E220d will have a 2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine mated to a 9G-tronic gearbox to churn out 187 bhp of max power and peak torque of 400 Nm. The new 4-cylinder motor is also the first all-aluminium diesel engine by Mercedes-Benz.
The E 220 d joins the fifth generation E-Class that the German automaker had launched on February 28 in two long-wheelbase variants -- E200 at Rs 56.15 lakh and E350d at Rs 69.47 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).
While the strong engine in the E 220 d alone promises to make it the hot-seller in its segment, the new variant makes its case stronger by offering a host of other comforts as well.
Like the E 200, the E 220 d comes with features like LED-powered headlamps, taillamps and daytime running lights (DRLs), rain-sensing windscreen wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Mercedes-Benz offers reclining rear seats adjustable from the chauffer’s end, panoramic sunroof, self-park technology, 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Service packages for the E 220 d start from Rs 76,600 for a span of two years. Mercedes-Benz is also offering an extended warranty up to 6 years under Advance Assurance Program starting at Rs 75,200.
