Four people, including a man and his son, died on Friday allegedly of asphyxiation after inhaling toxic gas while repairing a motor inside a well in Bihar's Gaya Ji district. The incident was reported at Garh Karmauni village in Dobhi police station area of the district. The deceased have been identified as Chamari Manjhi, his son Dilchand Manjhi, Vikas Chaudhary and Vijay Chaudhary.
Govt announces financial assistance
Giving details, SSP Sushil Kumar said all four died after reportedly inhaling toxic gas inside the well. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed grief over the incident, and directed officials concerned to provide ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.
Last month, a worker and a security guard allegedly died of asphyxiation while cleaning a sewage treatment plant (STP) tank at a residential society in Noida's Sector 150, police said. The incident was reported on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday at Eldeco Society under the Knowledge Park police station area. According to police, Shashikant Sharma (40), a resident of Rajasthan's Karauli district, entered the STP tank to clean it but lost consciousness inside.
Worker and security guard died of asphyxiation in Noida
A security guard, identified as Akash (22), a resident of Firozabad, entered the tank in an attempt to rescue Sharma but also fell unconscious, police said. Local police and fire department personnel rushed to the spot, retrieved both men from the tank and took them to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Police said the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination after completion of inquest proceedings.
A case has been registered and the Knowledge Park police have arrested the accused contractor, Manoj Jain. Further legal proceedings are being carried out, police added.
For people died of suspected asphyxiation in Jharkhand's Ramgarh
In another development, at least four persons died of suspected asphyxiation while allegedly carrying out mining in a 40-foot-deep unauthorised mine in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district on June 13. The incident was reported in forest land near Argada within Ramgarh police station jurisdiction.
Ramgarh police station in-charge Naveen Prakash Pandey said all four bodies were recovered from the mine and sent for postmortem examination. The deceased were identified as Deva Bediya (30), Dablu Bediya (36), who hailed from Chhotki Tongi village under Giddi police station limits of Hazaribag district, Kishore Ravani (33) and Ashish Kumar Natwar, both hailing from Budh Bazaar of Ramgarh district, he said. General manager of Central Coalfields Limited's (CCL) Argada area, Satyajit Kumar, told PTI that the incident site is outside the command area of CCL.
