Sharp foldable AMOLED prototype with a 6.18-inch display, showcased

Sharp has demonstrated its new foldable AMOLED display smartphone that can withstand more than 300,000 bending cycles. According to oled-info, the device comes with a 6.18" 1440x3040 foldable AMOLED display that folds inward, but according to Sharp the device can also bend outwards.

Back in June 2018, Sharp had started producing flexible OLED display and launched its first phone in October 2018 with its own panel called the Aquos Zero smartphone that had a notch-type 6.2- inch 1440x2992 display.

Samsung and Huawei too recently unveiled their foldable smartphones called the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X 5G smartphone, with Foldable design. 

The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with a 4.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED cover display that unfolds to a 7.3-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED display. The cover display on the phone holds a 10 Megapixel camera and when unfolded, the Galaxy Fold has another set of front camera that includes a10MP selfie+8MP depth sensor. At the back is a triple rear camera setup of 12MP telephoto +12MP Wide-angle+16MP Ultra wide angle camera.

The Huawei Mate X, on the other hand, comes with a foldable display that unfolds outwards, unlike the Galaxy Fold. The Mate X gets a compact hand-held bar design with Leica Camera System that includes a 40MP (Wide Angle Lens + 16 MP Ultra Wide Angle Lens + 8MP Telephoto lens. The front display includes a 6.6 inches front panel that unfolds to an 8 inches display.

With big smartphone players unveiling their foldable handsets, other companies too have started experimenting with the foldable displays.
