Brisbane, Nov 21: Brisbane International organizers have named the January tournament's men's singles trophy after 12-time Grand Slam winner Roy Emerson.

Australian tennis greats Rod Laver, Ashley Cooper, Mal Anderson and Pat Rafter joined Emerson at Brisbane's Pat Rafter Arena on Monday to see the unveiling of the newly commissioned Roy Emerson Trophy.

The 75-year-old Emerson holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles won by a male player: 12 singles titles and 16 doubles titles. He won the Australian Open six times between 1961 and 1967, more than any other player.

Emerson said lending his name to the trophy is “a tremendous honor.” “Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be recognized in this way.”
