Zurich, Mar 1: FIFA has licensed the GoalControl goal-line technology project as a fourth system competing to be used at the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA says the German system uses cameras to monitor if the ball fully crosses the goal line.

GoalControl joins another camera-based system, Hawk-Eye from Britain, and two other German projects, GoalRef and Cairos, which use magnetic field technology.

Cairos was licensed on Monday, after Hawk-Eye and GoalRef were approved last year and used at the Club World Cup in Japan in December.

FIFA has invited tenders for selection to be used at the Confederations Cup in Brazil in June and the World Cup.

The winner should be chosen in April.
