St. John's, Antigua: Offspinner Sunil Narine was recalled by the West Indies for the Cricket World Cup on Saturday after his bowling action was doubted by Indian officials.

Jason Holder, who will captain the side for the first time in the upcoming one-day international series in South Africa, will lead the team in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next month. But his predecessor Dwayne Bravo, and Kieron Pollard, who share more than 250 ODIs, missed out.

Narine was withdrawn from the ill-fated tour of India after his action was considered suspect by Indian umpires during the Champions League Twenty20 in September. He was ranked No. 2 in the world ODI and T20 rankings at the time.

Medium-pacers Sheldon Cottrell and Jonathan Carter, who will make their debuts in South Africa, were also chosen.

"We have a good mixture of some good seasoned players and some good youngsters," Clive Lloyd, the chairman of selectors, said.

"If they play to their potential I am quite sure we will do very well. I have really high hopes in this team - I believe they can do something special. We have the talent and if we can play to our potential we have a very good chance of lifting that trophy."

The West Indies opens its World Cup campaign on Feb. 16 against Ireland in Nelson, New Zealand.
