Kolkata: Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 127 runs took India out of a deep crisis, as West Indies bowler Shillingford tried to wreck the Indian innings on Day 2 of the first Test at Eden Gardens. Ravichandran Ashwin was batting at 92, as India made 354 for 6 at close, a lead of 120 runs over the visitors.

Facing 228 balls, Rohit Sharma hit 16 boundaries and a sixer, to steady the Indian innings.

Sachin Tendulkar, playing his 199th Test, was given leg before to a ball from Shillingford after making 10 runs. Some experts said, Tendulkar was wrongly given leg before.

The day started badly for India, with Shikhar Dhawan going out first clean bowled by Shillingford for 23. Murali Vijay was out for 26 stumped off a Shillingford ball.

Cheteshwar Pujara was out for 17 caught behind off Sheldon's ball. Virat Kohli had to go for 3, caught by Kieron Pollard off Shillingford's ball.
