Controversies which made IPL, the Problem League for BCCI

New Delhi: Indian Premiere League which is the golden goose of BCCI, has been engulfed in the controversies since beginning. Many records are made on the cricket ground but at the same time some off field activities either by the players or the non playing members seems to grab the attention of the cricket crazy nation.The latest revealation by the Supreme Court in IPL spot fixing case has once again rocked Indian cricket. After Mudgal committee filed its report in the apex court, the names of key cricket personalities investigated by the Justice Mudgal Committee for allegations of spot fixing and betting in the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).This league has certainly now become more like Problem League for BCCI. Since the first edition in 2008, many controversies took place which shall certify this statement. Slap gate: It was during the first season of the IPL in 2008 when two of the Team India's best team mates got involved in ugly slap gate incident. Sreesanth who was playing for KINGS XI Punjab was slapped by his senior team mate Harbhajan Singh who was representing the MUMBAI INDIANS teams. An inconsolable Sreesanth was seen crying like a baby and the cameras present there captured these moments which was really a low in the history of Indian Cricket. Boss shown the Door: Lalit Modi who is being credited for bringing and implementing a new and untested concept of city based games in India in the form of IPL was shown the door. The BCCI in 2010 has finally taken a bold decision to remove Mr Lalit Modi who has been in the lime light since the inception of the tournament . Breakaways: The league started with eight team participating in the tournament and then the process of expansion had started in the subsequent season's of the league. But to the disappoint of the cricket fans based in various cities in India , three teams till date has either been rejected or their registration has been cancelled .The first team to do that was noew defunct KOCHI TUSKERS in which a name of the union minister also got involved. Deccan Chargers Hyderabad and Sahara Pune Warriors are the other two teams to leave the league. Fixing the Spot: The revelations made by some fringe players in a sting operation had reveal that the vicious fang of fixing has started to take fancied IPL into its grasp. But the worse was unearthed when Delhi police arrested three players for fixing the game in IPL. The police had enough proof to show that all was not well in the richest league of cricket.Rahul Dravid led Rajasthan Royals in IPL was most affected. Three key players Sreesanth, Ashok Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were accused are now suffering ban from cricket imposed on them by the BCCI. Scandalous Betting : After the involvement of the players in spot fixing were exposed the turn was now for the big names to get involved. With the arrest of silver screen Vindoo Dara Singh and his subsequent revelations had led more worms coming out of the can. The biggest catch was Gurunath Meyippan son in law of the ex- BCCI president NSrinivasan. There was an immense pressure on him to remove him from the post of the president. But till recently he used to find an escape route until Supreme Court has passes its ruling to clean the game of Cricket.On 14th November 2014, Supreme Court bench comprising justice T.S. Thakur and justice F.M. Kalifullah said those under the Mudgal scanner were sidelined Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president N Srinivasan, BCCI chief operating officer (COO) Sunder Raman, IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) co-owner Raj Kundra and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team principal Gurunath Meiyappan besides at least three yet unnamed players.In the wake of Friday's developments, the BCCI elections - scheduled for Nov 20 - have been put on hold for another four weeks.
