Birmingham, Jun 8: The second day of the third test between England and West Indies has been abandoned Friday without a ball being bowled, marking the first time a test match in England was washed out in more than 40 years.

For a second consecutive day no play was possible at Edgbaston because of heavy rains that left huge puddles on the outfield.

The last time the opening two days of test cricket were rained off at Lord's was in 1964 when England hosted Australia.

Weather forecast suggests some play could take place Saturday.
