Wellington, Dec 6: New Zealand Cricket on Tuesday named former Test batsman turned rugby union administrator David White as its new chief executive.

White, 50, will lead NZC in the build-up to the 2015 Cricket World Cup, which will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.

He replaces Justin Vaughan, who stepped down at the end of last month, saying the demands of the job in the lead-up to the showpiece tournament would be too intense for his young family.

White played two Tests for New Zealand in 1990 during a tour of Pakistan, both of which were won by the host nation.

He then moved into rugby union administration and has been chief executive of New Zealand Super Rugby clubs the Wellington Hurricanes and Auckland Blues as well as Bristol Rugby in England.

"The board of NZC is delighted to have secured the services of such an experienced sports administrator," NZC chairman Chris Moller said.

White will start in his new role on February 1.
