Basseterre (St. Kitts):  Barbados Tridents beat Guyana Amazon Warriors to capture the 2014 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title, after rain spoiled an absorbing contest that appeared headed for an enthralling end here.

The Tridents batted first and set a target of 153 to win thanks to half centuries from Dwayne Smith and Shoaib Malik. A tight finish was in prospect, but a third interruption for rain meant that it was impossible to play the game to a conclusion. When the final rain delay came, the Tridents were eight runs ahead on the Duckworth Lewis calculations and were declared this year's champions.

Amazon Warriors were fighting back at 107 for four in the 16th over, when the rains arrived at Warner Saturday night to end the game prematurely, with Denesh Ramdin's side eight runs behind on the Duckworth/Lewis method, reports CMC.

At that stage, Amazon Warriors would have fancied their chances of still getting the 46 runs required of 25 deliveries left, but the weather never cooperated and Tridents were left to celebrate their maiden capture of the Caribbean Twenty20 title.
