The government’s attempt to promote the Aadhar card by using cricketer MS Dhoni’s photograph in which he was seen authenticating fingerprints to avail Aadhaar services tuned out to be a privacy nightmare for the former Indian captain.
It all started with CSC e- governance, the agency rendering the service of Aadhaar registration, tweeting from its official handle @CSCeGOV, the application form of MS Dhoni.
Union Information and Technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was also tagged in the tweet.
The tweet had two photos – one with Dhoni giving authenticating his fingerprint and the other with the cricketer's Aadhar Card info.
Ravi Shankar Prasad had also retweeted the @CSCeGOV post adding that Aadhaar service has been delivered to legendary cricketer MS Dhoni.
However, MS Dhoni’s wife Sakshi was not amused with her husband’s personal info being leaked online.
"Is there any privacy left ? Information of Aadhaar card including application is made public property. Disappointed,” Sakshi tweeted tagging both Ravi Shankar Prasad and the agency.
This led to exchange of a series of tweets between Sakshi Dhoni and Ravi Shankar Prasad.
"No it is not a public property. Does this Tweet (the one he had tweeted) divulge any personal information?" asked a somewhat confused Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Sakshi replied by tweeting the screenshot of the photo put up by CSC e- governance containing MS Dhoni's Aadhaar card information.
Realising the gaffe, the minister thanked Sakshi for bringing the matter to his attention and promised action in this case.
"Thanks for bringing this to my notice. Sharing personal information is illegal. Serious action will be taken against this." Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted.
@CSCeGOV later deleted the tweet in question.
It posted another tweet that read "Former India Cricket Captain @msdhoni updated his Aadhaar details with a home visit by a CSC VLE. A fan moment for Ahsan Ali. @rsprasad".
