New Delhi:  Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has said until all background data of cab drivers is obtained, it will be difficult to put a stop to cases of molestation and rape.

Reacting to the latest Uber molestation case, Gandhi today said, "I think it is very dangerous because you do not know what kind of taxis are on roads and you don't have any control..."

"Until all the background data of cab drivers is obtained, it will be difficult to put a stop at such cases," she said on the sidelines of an event.  US-based cab service provider Uber has landed in another controversy with one of its drivers being accused of molesting a female passenger during a ride to Gurgaon on Sunday.

Gurgaon police today arrested the driver after they received a complaint over email around 8 PM yesterday regarding the incident, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said.

An FIR was lodged in the case under section 354 A (molestation) of the IPC against 40-year-old Vinod.

The victim had registered her complaint over phone to an Uber representative following the incident wherein the cab driver identified as Vinod allegedly forced himself upon her, "trying to kiss and molest her".

In response to her complaint, the Uber representative had said, "We have a zero tolerance policy for this behaviour and I assure you that our team is following up with Vinod (cab driver) appropriately and immediately."
