Accusing the Trinamool Congress of "hypocrisy", the CPI(M) on Friday asked its opponent in West Bengal to withdraw from the government if it was so concerned about the rise in petroleum product prices.
"About the (UPA) allies, I would like to say that this shows their absolute hypocrisy of saying they are so concerned about the people's interest," CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat said in New Delhi.
Commenting on Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee abstaining from the Empowered Group of Ministers meeting when the hike was proposed, she asked "what is the question of abstentions in this?"
"You should be in the Cabinet meetings, you should be fighting against it. And if the government does not accept your views, then you withdraw from the government," Karat said. The CPI(M) leader indicated to the Left stand of withdrawing support to UPA-I on the Indo-US nuclear deal issue.
Maintaining that she was "unhappy" over the decision and that is why she did not attend the EGoM meeting, the Trinamool chief however said the UPA government "has our crucial support and it will remain". PTI
