Ten Indian politicians with poor educational background

New Delhi: There is no minimum educational qualification for any Indian to become an MLA, MLC or MP. The only qualification required is he or she must be an Indian national. In a situation where India is striving to become a world superpower, there have been debates whether or not educational qualification should be mandatory for politicians contesting elections. Here we give you a random list of 10 Indian leaders who have either pursued education till matriculation or were school drop outs or never went to school. 1. Gulzar Singh Ranike: He is the Cabinet Minister in Punjab for Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries. He is an undergraduate. He resigned from the cabinet after his alleged involvement in the Border Area Development Scam. He was re-inducted into the cabinet later.2. Phoolan Devi: She was a dreaded dacoit before she entered politics. She never went to school as she was forced into marriage with a man much older to her. She faced molestation and sexual assault from numerous men several times. The anger in her turned her into a dacoit. Phoolan Devi surrendered and was later released on parole and all cases were withdrawn against her. She joined the Samajwadi party and became a member parliament from Mirzapur. She was shot by an assassin outside her residence in Delhi.3. Rabri Devi: She had no experience in politics until her husband, Laloo Prasad Yadav, was forced to resign from the position of chief minister of Bihar after his alleged involvement in the fodder scam. Rabri Devi, a housewife at that time, and still now, was appointed as the chief minister of the second most populous state of India. Rabri Devi is almost uneducated. She did not even complete her junior schooling and was married at the age of 14.4. Vijaykanth: An actor turned politician, Vijayakanth won the TN assembly elections in 2011. He had a successful career in movies and was famous for his role as Captain in the movie Captain Prabhakaran. Vijayakanth was not able to continue his studies after 12th standard as he was forced to join his father in his rice mill.5. J. Jayalalitha: The current chief minister of Tamil Nadu. She was brilliant as a student and received a scholarship to continue her studies after matriculation. She declined the scholarship as she wanted to start her career in films.6. Golma Devi: By virtue of being the wife of Meena community leader Kirori Lal Meena, Golma Devi became an MLA. She is uneducated and hence was not even able to read her oath during the swearing in ceremony. The chief minister of Rajasthan, who had appointed Golma Devi, said in her defence that it is not necessary to be educated to administer people; you must have a strong leadership quality.7. Karunanidhi: The former chief minister of Tamil Nadu did not pursue his education after matriculation. But he is blessed with a remarkable talent of writing and has written many screenplays for Tamil films . He has made numerous contributions to Tamil literature with his poems and books. 8. K. Kamraj: A freedom fighter turned politician Kamraj contributed a lot to Indian politics despite being uneducated. Kamraj was born in a poor family and had to drop his studies in order to take up a job to support his family. He was part of many freedom struggles through the Indian National Congress and while in jail, he tried to learn English. He later became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu in 1954 and later the Congress president during the turbulent Sixties. One word he always used to say was "Vanakkam" (namaskar) in Tamil.9. Jaffer Sharif: The former railway minister only pursued studies till matriculation. He started off his career as a driver with Congress President S. Nijalingappa and later joined politics. 10. Vatal Nagraj: The Kannada Challuvalli Vatal Paksha president Vatal Nagraj is a 10th standard dropout. He has contributed a lot to preserve Kannada culture and fight for Kannada glory. He is an ex-MLA from Chamarajnagar.
