Narendra Modi: Corruption is more serious disease than cancer

Kaithal (Haryana): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today responded to the criticism that he failed to say anything on corruption during his independence Day speech. Addressing a public meeting in Kaithal of Haryana, Modi said that

03:54 pm: Modi concludes his speech with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.

03:53 pm: Modi: Our farmers must be able to survive poor monsoons or drought. We must facilitate them. If our farmers can draw sufficient water for agriculture then they can work wonders.

03:52 pm: Modi: Dear Friends, let us pledge to develop Haryana. I assure you that the central government will give you all the support.

03:49 pm: Modi:
Previously when I had visited Haryana, I had said that people of Haryana have special rights over me. Now that I have become the Prime Minister of India I repeat – people of Haryana have special rights over me.  I tell you now; the government will do all it can for you. Farmers of Haryana fill coffers of the country with food grains. But our famers are left empty handed. Farmers here have never stepped back in feeding the hungry people of the country. Like Vajpayee, our government will start “Prime Minister Gram Krishi Sichaee Yojana”.Some central schemes have been lying incomplete, I assure you I will try and complete them.

03:46 pm: Modi:
We can't do with infrastructure of last century. A contractor comes builds a road&it gets destroyed in monsoon, can't work like this. Friends, I had spoken my heart out during my  Independence Day sppech. But some people criticized my speech saying I didn't say anything about corruption. I had said that we need to move away from  “mera kya” (What about me, how will I gain?). 'Mera Kya' and 'Mujhe Kya' have ruined us, we need a corruption free nation. Don't you all want to root out corruption? Will you support me while I take stern decisions? This disease has spread more rampantly than cancer.

03:40 pm: Modi:
Haryana is an apt example of development. But it is incomplete. You can see the national highway 1 on the outskirts of Haryana. But as you move further into the state you will realize how uneven that development is.  Like we have arteries in our bodies,we have roads in our country, they act as arteries. When the road network improves, development also increases.

03:38 pm: Modi: Development is the only path that can take us ahead. Our youth needs employment. No matter how much land we have, our farmers are now compelled to send their children outside for studies in various fields because they see no future in farming and it seems as though agriculture has no means of income.

03:36 pm:
Modi: The density of people present here, reflects the kind of faith people of India have in development.

03:29pm: Modi: I will repay you for your love.  I know Haryana as much as I know Gujarat. I have learned a lot from this place. I hail from the birth place of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. In every corner of Haryana, Dayanand's education is imparted. Hence those who are born in Haryana  naturally believe  in ethics and morality. People of this state have their own style.

03:27pm: Modi: Yesterday the entire nation celebrated Janamashtami. We always think of Kurukshetra on such occasions. Kurukshetra is a symbol of peace. I feel privileged to be here. As the Prime Minister, it is my maiden visit to this holy land. It's from Kurukshetra that the bugle of morality was first blown.
