Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on two-day visit to Gujarat, on Wednesday, launched several Gujarat government schemes at an event organised in Mahatma Mandir here.

The schemes were launched under the 'Swavalamban Abhiyan' initiative.

Governor OP Kohli, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha were among other top dignitaries to attend the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister greeted people in Gujarati language saying 'Kem Cho?' (how are you).

“Today is Vishwakarma Puja Diwas. On this day we are commencing the Swavalamban Yojana. I congratulate you all for this,” Modi said.

“The spirit of entrepreneurship among women is admirable. We have seen this in the dairy sector in Gujarat,” Modi added.

He further lauded Gujarat government's efforts to uplift the neo-middle class.

“We need to help this section of society the most. The state government must be congratulated for these efforts,” he said.

"I keep receiving your blessings and wishes on all 365 days. I am really grateful to you. It inspires me to do new things," he added.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister while praising Modi expressed hope that he will fulfil the aspirations of the people.

“In Gujarat's Budget we talked about several schemes that we are launching today. Poor are the focus of these schemes,” she said, adding that “Narendra Bhai has created a situation where we do not have to go begging to Delhi. We never had to tell him about Narmada issue.”

“A government must be for the poor,” the Chief Minister opined.

Gujarat Governor Kohli termed it a very important day in Gujarat's history.

“During his terms as CM, the PM made Gujarat Swarnim Gujarat,” he said.
